ReplyDeleteI read about the afterlife and I learned that although most Egyptian art wasn't dated, they used stelae to commemorate historical events or prayers. The one shown in the activity has hieroglyphs and references to Osiris, the god of the dead. The Egyptians also believed that even dead people could still receive offerings to made to them from those who were still living.
ReplyDeleteI read about the elements of style. I learned that Ancient Egyptians sought to convey information rather than reproduce reality. Images often functioned as hieroglyphics to be read. Art historians call the mixture of profile and frontal views isolation and reassemblage.
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting that artists actually blended two different types of view points. Its also incredible that historians are able to understand a society's thoughts through just small pictures.
